Local footy favourite, Scott Prince, knows how important regular exercise is. That’s why he’s teamed up with our friends at Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) to suggest simple, fun kids’ activities to develop co-ordination, balance and strength.

Physical activity is a fun way for parents/caregivers to engage with children and a fun way for children to engage with each other. Adults can supervise or be involved depending on their physical capabilities.

Kids should ideally be active every day.
Time per day: Physical Activity Guidelines focus on accumulation of total time per day.

  • Toddlers (1 to 3 years) and pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years) should be physically active every day for at least three hours, spread throughout the day.
  • For health benefits, children aged 5–12 years should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day.

Children’s physical activity should include a variety of aerobic activities, including some vigorous intensity activity. At least three days a week, kids should do activities to strengthen their bones and muscles.
